Family Survival Rolls
The lives of noncombatants is precarious
To avoid immortal family and specialist nonplayer characters the “Step 6. Family Rolls” of the Winter Phase is expanded to discover any natural deaths.
An estate-holder will normally employ a resident healer and a farrier (horse doctor), who provide a +1 modifier to Family Survival and Horse Survival Rolls, respectively. The cost of such hirelings is subsumed into the overhead cost of running the manor.
If an individual is in a county, but outside a city, that is raided, pillaged or plundered then modifiers to the Survival Roll are: -1 for a Raid, -2 for Pillaged, -4 for Plundered.
If the individual is in a city that is besieged the Survival Roll modifier is -2.
Famine in a county where the individual resides grants a -5 penalty to the chance of death.
Plague in a county where the individual resides grants a -5 penalty the chance of death.
